An Honor of Appreciation Awarded To Filipino National Artist
A passion for art. An upholder of a good cause.
Jose Fernandez Datuin, known simply as Joe Datuin, has elevated his artistry in the field of painting and sculpting. Showing his potential and interest in art
at a very young age, he pursued his love for art at UST Fine Arts. Being trained under remarkable mentors like National Artist J. Elizalde Navarro, National
Artist Arturo Luz, Cenon Rivera, Angelito Antonio, Leon Pacunayen and Mario Parialat, he have already garnered several awards for his excellence locally
and internationally.
One of his many acclaimed masterpieces is the sculpt art work “Dancing Rings” that won gold medal in the last Beijing Olympic 2008. The sculptures are now laid
as portals in the entrance of Quirino Grandstand facing Rizal Monument along Roxas Boulevard in Luneta, Manila. Joe Datuin was also the lone Filipino Gold
Medal holder in Olympic Arts during the Russian hosted Olympic Games in 1979 where the entire Philippine sports delegation called off it's participation for
very important reason.
Joe Datuin have shared his talent in designing the logo of Philippine Drowning Prevention Council. During the 1st Philippine Drowning Prevention Council held
last August 13-14, 2011, PDPC Convenor and PLS President Arne Navarra explained the meaning of the PDPC Logo.

PDPC Logo Designed by Mr. Joe F. Datuin
“In the bodies of water (represented by blue background), there is a circle of organizations (represented by white circle) – the PDPC who would lead a
continuum for developing initiatives in drowning prevention and will adhere to International Standard Practices (as represented by the red/yellow colours
positioned in 4 different corners; which also meant the round the clock timing to keep watch on drowning incidents anywhere). The Philippine Drowning Prevention
Council (PDPC) hopes to achieve “ A drown-free Philippines ” in the years to come.
The event also paved the way to extend PDPC's gratitude to Mr. Datuin for utilizing his talent and sincere enthusiasm to support the campaigns of Philippine
Drowning Prevention Council. PLS President Arne Navarra presented the Honor of Appreciation to the National Artist, Joe F. Datuin last August 13, 2011 at the
Philippine Drowning Prevention Congress in De La Salle Zobel, Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
Joe Datuin is indeed one of the Filipino artists that we should be truly proud of. He just proves that creativity becomes more worthwhile and commendable if it
is being shared for an expedient goal.
